Back to Rhylanor
This note is from our February 5, 2017 session and was mostly written by Carl and Kay with additional material provided by myself.
We used the Roll20 online virtual tabletop to connect with each other since we are now scattered around the country.
I used Sketchup and Twilight Render to do the artwork. The Map is from Travellermap.com.
Continued from: Sand Pit - Part 3.
Date: 136-1106 Imperial.
Location: In hyperspace outside the Keng system in the Regina Subsector.
Medicus was in the autodoc, seriously injured. A pirate had taken his arm off with a laser rifle the week before. Rhylanor was our best destination for a new arm and it was going take a while to get there. Our planned route was: Rethe, Keanu, Fulacin and then to Rhylanor.
Money was a known issue with less than 13 MCr in the ship fund and several big expenses to deal with at Rhylanor:
- Air/raft repair
- Skylark annual refit
- Medicus’ arm
Could be we will dipping into our individual funds and giving the ship account a loan.
Planned pilot rotation for the journey was:Kipenzi, Sam, and Fig.
143-1106Medicus had healed enough to come out of the autodoc! He had instructions to keep a compression bandage on the wound and avoid bumping things with it. The burns on his left side were almost mostly healed.
145-1106
Into Rethe system.
One of the reasons that Rethe High Port has been downgraded to class “E” is that fuel is no longer available there. So we headed for a local gas giant to scoop hydrogen for fuel, unfortunately the nearest gas giant was on the other side of the sun from the main world, a two day trip.
Sam researched the trading aspects, and there was no reason to do any purchasing at Rethe. At this time we revised our flight plan to take advantage of better trading opportunities and avoid the huge jump shadow at Keanu.
147-1106Got to the gas giant in good order, set up for refueling.
Kipenzi had the helm for the dive into the gas giant’s atmosphere.
A little bit of rough edges in the scooping of gas - Shades of Medicus at Querion! We lost power on the second attempt. Leon was in engineering and FIXED IT !!! (Game note - CRITICAL FAILURE to kill the engines followed by a CRITICAL SUCCESS to fix it.)
Recovery from the 'dive' went OK, and several hours later we had a full tank for processing into usable fuel. Mid evening ship time and we headed out toward jump distance and refining as we went.150-1106 2000
Ready to Jump out of the Rethe System. Sam had done his broker thing,
thinking about our money issues vs a speedy transit, and decided that we
should continue our journey by jumping out of Rethe to Inthe. Those
computers in the cargo bay had to go someplace. Lengthening the trip
seemed OK with Medicus being up and about.
The plan now was to go to Inthe, Macene, Tureded and then Rhylanor.
157-1106
Arrive
into the Inthe system. Landing and trading was no trouble. Updated our
records of coming and going. Unrefined fuel and daily dock fee was 135
(675 total).
164-1106
Ready to jump out to Macene, an asteroid belt system.
171-1106
Arrive at Macene. Docking = 100/day. Uneventful visit. Updated databases as always.
178-1106
Jumping out for Tureded. As we got set to jump out, a 100 ton Yacht (Present Imperfect) arrived, inbound from Risek.
185-1106
Into the Tureded system just before midnight.
186-1106 0120
Encounter small asteroid with mining ship, the Maverick, very rude to
Medicus on the radio. And absolutely nothing happened anywhere else.
Docked at station.
193-1106
As
we headed out to jump for Rhylanor, there was a news dump from an
arriving ship. Our computer alarmed us for a match of something we were
interested in.
A news report had a picture match for Harry Lemuri, the person we believed was responsible for the Bloodwell Disaster.

¶ TNS – A broker was crushed to death when a
giant cargo container suddenly slid off a transport in
Tukera’s hardstand area at Leedor Down Starport. ¶ The accident happened at about 1705 at pad 38A, according to a Tukera Lines representative. ¶ "I seen the container tipped over and I was like another one? Because yesterday I seen the same incident, and I was like all bad," said Cornelius "Whiskey" Owen, a witness. ¶ Owen captured the scene on Wonday when another cargo container fell off a flatbed transport, but no one was hurt. ¶ On Tuday, it turned deadly. It's unclear what caused the container to come off the transport, but it happened just as the transport was passing the man. The victim never had a chance. The coroner's office has identified him as Eneri Laagir, a cargo broker working for Tukera. ¶ Owen says he believes transport companies have been cutting corners lately trying to keep up with the surge of business at Naasirka Yards and at the Imperial Naval Base. ¶ "Right now, the regular transports aren't taking all the containers. I'm assuming that they're hiring those ‘bot flatbeds because yesterday it was a flatbed too," said Owen. "Those containers mass from 16,000 Kilos on up. They just strap them on with straps, and they basically tear off." Ω |
So Harry Lemuri was killed in a 'freak accident' at Leedor starport on Aramis and his listed name was Eneri Laagir, a Tukera employee. That was one closed loop with a few questions unresolved. Was he working for Tukera when the Bloodwell was destroyed or was he working on his own? In any case, his existence had become inconvenient for Tukera, especially as word got out that people were looking for him.
Sam took us out for jump to Rhylanor.
200-1106Our guess on our air/raft repair cost was 150K, so we had enough money to cover our planned expenses.
Dock fees will be 300 Credits a day for the deluxe hanger with attached suite and office.203-1106
Medicus went in for an evaluation and shared his notes as to what he wanted in a prosthetic arm. It looks possible, but is cutting edge technology and will be expensive. Nearly 6 million credits for what he wants.
Fig went shopping for training classes to load onto the Skylark’s computer. One of the things the crew does on those long weeks in Hyperspace is to take classes on their off shifts and he is always looking for something new. This time he picked up classes in the Vilani Language, Gambling, Using Explosives, Playing the Guitar and Speaking Vargr.
205-1106Medicus goes in for his surgery, he will spend one week in the hospital.
The air/raft is in the shop getting a new drive section installed (145 KCr)
Annual maintenance for the Skylark started.207-1106
Kipenzi enrolls in a Vilani language course.
Someone pick-pocketed Sam's datapad somewhere in the starport terminal. He was out and about tracking down cargoes and discovered that it was missing, costing him half a weeks worth of trading information.
212-1106Medicus gets out of the hospital with a socket on his arm for his prosthetic. It will need to heal before plugging in his new arm which is still being manufactured at this time.
While he heals, he studies for his Flight Surgeon Certificate.
214-1106Fig and Leon go up to the old high port and enroll in a Zero-G class.
Kipenzi travels to Broasca dome to take her first class in Introductory Vilani.
Sam continues trading cargoes. Sometimes having them delivered to the hanger where the Skylark is parked, the containers stacked outside the ship.At the high port there is a HUGE demonstration. Inegivari demonstrating against the noble system. They are a pro-republican group working to end the Imperial feudal system.
Their name has a similar sound to the terrorist group... Hmmmmm.Coincidence.... I think not!
Fig and Leon went around it. No reason to get involved or scooped up by law enforcement. On to the class and the hotel where we stay.221-1106
At the high port, we meet a trader booth selling strange curios. 'From far distant planets'. He showed us some jaws... from a Chamax!
226-1106
Medicus' new arm was attached and he begins physical therapy to learn how to use it.
228-1106
Kipenzi
went to the Radish Festival. A major Rhylanor cultural event. She
called up to the high port for Leon, who entered the carving contest. He
didn’t place and got some rather scathing reviews. His non-traditional
metalwork was not well received.
234-1106
News from Regina. Disaster in space:
⑆REGINA/REGINA (2314-A788899A) 186-1106 |
¶ A spokesman for Tukera Lines today
announced indefinite suspension of high capacity commercial
service to the Regina subsector pending outcome of the
official investigation of the Trimkhana-Brilliance tragedy. ¶ Less than a month ago, the 800-ton liner Trimkhana-Brilliance was lost with 217 lives due to a jump capacitor discharge immediately prior to jump. While all four survivors of the disaster are still under intensive medical care, interviews with the one surviving crew member indicate that the capacitor discharge may have been due to a delay in jump after full charging due to a failure of the port inboard L-Hyd drop tank to separate completely. ¶ A Tukera Lines official press release stated that a team of company engineers would be “taking a long hard look at General Shipyard’s quality control standards.” ¶ In the wake of the announcement of high-capacity service suspension, General shipyards common stock fell 34 points on the Regina exchange before exchange officials suspended trade. Oberlindes Lines stock closed up 5 ¾. Ω |
Kipenzi had been making the rounds of bars, but hasn't heard of any increased friction between Oberlindes and Tukera.
235-1106
CURFEW
in the capital. All people return to their homes/ships. Gates for
starport are closed, security at high port is increased.
Kipenzi was in class sheltered in place.
About 10 hours later an all clear was sounded. Bomb on roof of one of the big 1KM domes. She got back to the Skylark and housing. No one has claimed credit for the bomb yet.Medicus scheduled a certification test for 256-1106.
238-1106Fig, Kipenzi and Leon finished classes. Skills a little better, some training tapes purchased.
242-1106
Skylark is under investigation for smuggling. Cannot leave port. We got legal representation and support from Leon's family.
Thorough search found nothing. Fortunately they didn't recognize the lifters as Ancient Artifacts. Rumor has it that a 'tip' came in to the authorities. F***ing Tukera!
249-1106Public announcement. Next week for Fleet Week, two Tigress class dreadnoughts will be in system. The Tigress and Hexapanther.
Kipenzi: “Also known as the Happy Fun Ball of Death.”
256-1106Medicus testing for certification and passes his Ship's Flight Physician test. We can now call him "Doc"!
Fleet week tours of big ships were interesting, but a ship looks a whole lot like another ship. They weren’t giving tours of the really interesting parts of the ship.
We had a planning session and decided to go to Shionthy where we think the Annic Nova dropped off the rest of their personnel (possible survivors and the plague). BTW: Kipenzi remembered to tell Imperial Navy/Scout Service about possible plague in Shionthy system while we were here.Continued in The Kinunir, Part 1.
