The Skylark 2

About a year into the campaign the players decided that they had enough money in game to buy a new starship. I had drawn the first ship that they had in Sketchup and decided to draw the new one based on the plans that one of the players had drawn up.

One of the players, Bryce, sent me a floor plan of the ship along with an excel spreadsheet showing what everything would cost in Imperial Credits. This was his drawing:

...a couple of hours later, I had a basic 3D model in Sketchup. That is Bryce's character, Sam, standing on the upper deck. It took about six months of random evenings to fill in the rest of the details.

Here is the finished model at Vanegen starport.

Loading cargo from the rear cargo ramp.

Looking aft in the cargo bay. The ship can carry 50 metric tons of cargo, a little less that the adventurer's previous ship. The ladder on the left leads up to the main airlock.

One of the two lower airlocks, the ladder leads up to engineering.

Engineering. The original plan showed a big open area labeled engine room, so I needed to design some equipment to fill the space. On the left we have the ship's jump drive, on the right is the maneuver drive and center is the ship's duel core fusion power plant.

Looking starboard from behind the power plant. In true sci-fi fashion, engineering has lots of nooks and crannies to hide in.

Forward from the power plant is life support (on the left). The emergency exit near the center between the lockers was not part of the original design. Kipenzi thought it would be a good idea to have at least one exit to the ship that did not require power to use.

The double doors lead to the air/raft bay. The other doors go to the main airlock. On the right is the engineering control station. You can actually pilot the ship from there if you need to.

The main airlock. The hatch in the floor leads to the cargo bay.

This is the common area, where the crew hangs out and plans their adventures. They have a folding table and chairs that they set up here most of the time. That is the galley on the left and the ship's bridge in the center. The ladders on either side lead up to the turrets.

The common area with the bridge doors closed and the sick bay door open. Left of center are the two low passage bays where they carry passengers in cold sleep.

The bridge. There are a total of four stations here, the two shown and one on each side.
